Executive and Editor Application

Open Positions

  • Ensures holistic scientific quality of papers

  • Works directly with Editor-in-Chiefs and Executive Copy Editor

  • Leads scientific editor team

  • Prepares training materials for scientific editor team

  • Assess any conflicts of interest & ethical concerns 

  • Presents and trains scientific editors on training day

  • Delegates papers among scientific editors

  • Ensures management of scientific peer review process

  • Overlooks communication between authors and scientific editors

Executive Scientific Editor

  • Ensures holistic stylistic quality (e.g. formatting, grammar, spelling, citations) of papers

  • Ensures manuscript is original and does not contain artificial intelligence or plagiarism in any capacity

  • Assess any conflicts of interest & ethical concerns 

  • Works directly with Editor-in-Chiefs and Executive Scientific Editor

  • Leads copy editor team

  • Prepares training materials for copy editor team

  • Presents and trains copy editors on training day

  • Delegates papers among copy editors

  • Ensures management of copy editing peer review process

  • Overlooks communication between authors and copy editors

Executive Copy Editor

  • Work with Student Activities to secure and promote funding

  • Reach out to other UNT resources for funding opportunities

  • Collaborate alongside Outreach to budget for events

  • Keep track of membership and fees

  • Keep track of overall organization budget through organization tools

Director of Finance

  • Manage social media accounts and external presence

  • Manage correspondence between organizations and professors

  • Work alongside Finance to plan and coordinate events for organization marketing

  • Create advertising to recruit future board members and collaborations

Director of Outreach

  • Manages website content, visual design, and text

  • May work alongside Outreach to create promotional graphics

  • Use graphic design tools and programs to create and design Wingspan’s journal

  • Work alongside the Editor-in-Chief during journal creation process, ensuring journal is properly formatted, visually accessible, and aesthetic

Director of Graphic Design

  • Conduct student peer review of papers in a fair, unbiased manner to improve the quality of paper

  • Assess the originality, accuracy, and significance of the paper

  • Assess overall content of paper in a double-blind format, ensuring paper meets Wingspan guidelines

  • Ensure paper is comprehensive for a non-scientific audience and flows in a narrative manner

  • Identifying strengths and weaknesses of paper

  • Communicate edits with Scientific Executive officer in a timely manner

  • Attend yearly peer review training

  • Ensure edits and revisions are professional and of high quality

Scientific Editors

  • Conduct student peer review of papers in a fair, unbiased manner to improve the quality of paper 

  • Assess proper formatting, grammar, and spelling of paper

  • Line-by-line editing of paper in a double-blind format

  • Ensures paper is original and does not contain artificial intelligence in any capacity

  • Ensures paper  includes proper stylistic citations

  • Communicate edits with Copy Executive officer in a timely manner

  • Attend yearly peer review training

  • Ensure edits and revisions are professional and of high quality
